Let’s be honest to ourselves, staying fit and healthy in college is not the easiest task anymore, like it was in high school. It gets difficult to make time to go to the gym, especially when you are balancing classes, homework, a part-time job, and a social life that demands so much of your time. Back in high school, I used to have soccer practice every single day after class and I weighed around 119 lbs at most. Now, girl I can’t say it’s the same number now, but I can say that I have learned over the years about how to stay healthy and fit on any time restraint.

In this blog post, I am going to share with you some tips and advice that have helped get my butt in the gym and stay healthy, even when I am super busy. Plus working out and eating the right foods allows you to get better sleep, reduce stress, and give your body a healthy glow from within.

Wear Cute Workout Clothes

My number one tip to get motivated about working out is to stock up your closet with cute workout clothes. But quality workout sets cost money, something that a college student is usually pretty low on. In comes Yoga Club, a subscription service for yoga/workout clothes! I recently found them online, and they are the best thing since sliced bread.

Once you sign up for Yoga Club ($79 monthly subscription), the website will make you take a short style quiz that’ll help guide the Yoga Club stylist on the best items to pick for you. In each box, you’ll receive three premium items from different activewear brands, such as Free People, Steve Madden, Niyama, Athleta, and so many more. The boxes price value ranges anywhere from $160-200 worth of items so you’re always getting a steal with the Yoga Club subscription. You can save $10 off your membership for life if you use my link to purchase your Yoga Club subscripton.

This month my box contained a white Vie Active Tank Top ($48), a baby pink Onzie sports bra ($48), and a pair of Niyama leggings in the style “Barefoot” ($88). Guys, I’ve never had this expensive of a workout outfit before, but just by touching the clothes, you can feel the quality in each piece. It feels so smooth and soft on my skin, its incredible! Plus, I love the strappy detail of the sports bra and the cool striped design on the leggings.

Find a Work Out Buddy

I’m always more motivated to work out when I have a partner to rely on. When I was a freshman in college, my roommates would come with me all the time to go work out, but nowadays I have to go solo and it’s definitely not as fun anymore without them. Since your bestie and you might have opposite schedules, plan ahead and carve out a time that works for the both of you to hit the campus gym or to test out a new workout class you’ve been dying to test out. By holding each other accountable, it enables you and your workout buddy to stay on top of your new healthy lifestyle.

Get Fit in a Unique Way

Ever wanted to try out Soulcycle or that new boxing class down the road? Now is the time! Working out in your apartment gym every night can get tiring and old very quickly, trust me I’ve been there and done that. So, the next time you want to work out, try something new that you’ve been eyeing out. Some examples of classes that you might be interested in are SoulCycle, boxing, aerial yoga, hot yoga, and spin classes. I know this year I really want to try aerial yoga for the first time…I’m trying to speak it into existence. If classes aren’t your thing, then switch up your routine by going for a hike or going for a run around your neighborhood.

Cut Out Processed Sugars & Stack Up on Fruits & Veggies

Eating a ton of processed sugars can make you feel tired, groggy, and sluggish. It’s a proven fact so if you want to upscale your fitness goals, you’re going to have to cut down on those processed sugars in your meals. The best way to create a new habit though is to start off small and simple. Try cutting out soda from your meals and switching your sides to leafy green vegetables.

Drink Plenty of Water

Water is essential for life so make it a priority to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Plus, if you’re like me and have adult acne, drinking your daily intake of water can really help clear up your skin and help keep your face moisturized. If you don’t like drinking plain water, then try adding sliced up fruits, such as strawberries and lemons, to give your water a spazzed.

Make Your Health A Priority

When it comes to being in college and working a part-time job, it gets hard to make time for the things that truly matter like your mental and physical health. You only have one mind and one body so it’s important to take care of what you have right now! It only takes 30 minutes a day to maintain a healthy heart, lose or maintain weight, and to elevate your health goals. For me, I love working out late at night when nobody is in the gym because I enjoy having the entire gym to myself. I also do this because I don’t like when I feel like people are watching me workout. Do what makes you feel comfortable and that works with your schedule, early 6 am mornings or 9 pm evenings.

Don’t Forget to Reward Yourself

The hardest part about the healthy lifestyle journey is actually maintainingthat lifestyle. Any fitness guru will tell you that you have to reward yourself at the end of the week and get that greasy pizza or donut you’ve been craving. And it’s okay to do so! Life is all about balance and rewarding yourself for doing a great job for the week.
